Why am I here? What is my purpose? What do I want to do accomplish in my lifetime? How do I want to make a living? I remember how stressful it was trying to pick a major in college. I was eighteen and I had to decide then what I wanted to do with the rest of my life (talk about a lot of pressure!) But what I realized is my purpose does not equal what I do for a living.
When I was trying to figure out what my purpose was, I realized my purpose in life was much broader than defining it to a job title. There are actually many careers I could choose from that would help me feel fulfilled in my life purpose.
My purpose in life is to help as many women feel confident and love themselves. There are many different careers where this could be accomplished. I chose to launch my own life coaching business. Not only do I absolutely love what I do, but it fulfills my purpose of helping women.
So now it is your turn to decide what your life purpose is. First, start by writing down all of the things in life you enjoy doing. Also, write down all of the things you are passionate about. Lastly, write down all of the things you could do for hours without getting bored. See if there is a common theme between what you write down.
What motivates you? What are you passionate about? If you had all the money in the world what would you do with your time? Write these all down. Once you start to learn more about yourself, what you are passionate about, your purpose in life will start to become clearer.
If you could design your life, what would you want your life to look like? This helps you narrow down into what types of career you would be interested in. If you want to travel a lot, it would make more sense to find a job that allows you to do so. Or maybe your priority is to purchase a house, if so where? That also helps you narrow down career possibilities.
Now you have a good idea of what you are passionate about and what you want your life to look like. Next, I would do a google search, and write down all of the careers that sound interesting to you. Do research about those careers. Ask friends who are in those careers what they are really like. Get as much information as you can to see if it is a good fit for you.
Another option is to start a side hustle. If you are interested in something you can do in your spare time, why not try it out.
You might secretly know your passion and purpose in life. A lot of times I will work with clients and it will take a couple of sessions before they pause and say well I haven’t told anyone this before but … and then they fill me in on what they really wish they were doing. What is blocking you from saying out loud what you want? Is there any fear holding you back in life? If you keep telling yourself you don’t know what you want, ask yourself why? Why don’t you know?
Remember that your passion and purpose can change as you do. Just because you want to try something out does not mean it is written in stone. Try new things, experience life, and let yourself live your passion and purpose.
